GR34 is a famous footpath also called in French Sentier des Douaniers (Path of the Customs officer or smugglers path). It was created in the 18th century to discourage smuggling. This is a 1800 km (1120 miles) trail which is perfectly signposted with red and whites blazes as a GR is commonly marked in France.

The complete tour of Brittany can be walked on this coastal trail, starting from Granville or Mont Saint Michel and continuing westward to Saint Brieuc, Brest and ending in Arzal in the Gulf of Morbihan, Southern Brittany.

Part 13 : From Audierne to Concarneau,

From the bay of Audierne to Concarneau, cross from side to side the Bigouden country, jewel of the region and of Breton traditions. You will appreciate the very special geography that makes Brittany so charming. Passing by the Eckmühl lighthouse, you will visit Pont-l Abbé, capital of the Pays Bigouden, Bénodet, source of inspiration for many artists, and Concarneau, city of art and history.

Day 1

Audierne
Arrival and settling in the town of Audierne, a link between Cap Sizun and the Iroise Sea. This fishing port, ideally located at the mouth of the Goyen, was also a very active trading port on the sea routes of Western Europe. The city was built in small, narrow and picturesque streets behind the quay which encloses the cove of the port and was widely spread over the surrounding heights.

Day 2

Audierne - Pouldreuzic
Departing from Audierne, you will gradually leave Cap Sizun to explore Pays Bigouden. You will end your excursion in Pouldreuzic, known in particular for housing the headquarters of the company Jean Hénaff SA, famous for its pâté and the museum space dedicated to the brand. Ascent 100m - Descent 100m – 19.5 km

Day 3

Pouldreuzic - St- Guenolé
You are heading towards the Pointe de la Torche, a great training ground for bigouden surfers, fans of thrills. Your hike ends in the village of St Guénolé, located in the commune of Penmarc'h and facing the Atlantic Ocean on its three sides.
Ascent 25m - Descent 25m – 20 km

Day 4

St-Guenole - Lesconil
Departing from the fishing port of St Guénolé, whose dikes shelter boats from the south-westerly winds, you will discover the Eckmülh lighthouse (listed as a historical monument), the Pointe de Penmarc'h. Your hike continues along the coast to Lesconil.
No height differences – 17 km

Day 5

Lesconil–Bénodet
Departing from Lesconil, once in Loctudy, embark for Île-Tudy (service to be paid on site: €1.50), a former fishing and trading port. Finally, you reach Bénodet, one of the most fashionable seaside resorts in Brittany.

Day 6

Benodet – Beg mail
Passing through the Marais de Mousterlin, a protected and classified Natura 2000 site, and the Pointe de Beg Meil, otherwise known as the “Pointe du Poisson Argent”, you head towards Fouesnant, a former rural town that has retained its bocage appearance.

Day 7

Beg mail – Concarneau
The town of Concarneau is famous for its port and its fortifications. You can visit the fishing museum, the castle of Kériolet locatedon the heights of the city as well as the Manor of Stang-al-lin also called "the pink castle" because of the color of its walls. End of the stay at the end of the hike.
